Tony Ford, Director

Outdoor Event Safety, Logistics and Special Projects

Tony applies his many years of outdoor logistical and practical skills to deliver safe and effective events for a wide range of clients.

Tony has been planning and managing expeditions, events and special projects for over 12 years. In that time he has overseen the success and safety of over 50 challenge events, from dog sledding expeditions in Norway, to planning and managing the safety and logistics for 2000 walkers through the streets of London by night. Overseas challenges have ranged from large team treks in Brazil and New Zealand, to multi discipline expeditions in Guatemala and Namibia and the UK.

Tony has worked on special projects for schools and environmental charities and Tony spent three years as Director at Across the Divide Expeditions where he developed a new range of innovative challenges and projects.

Safety planning and logistical management is the core of Tony’s experience. Tony has been integral in the development of new advanced standards in challenge event safety, working with a wide variety of authorities and NGO’s in key risk and incident management.

Tony lives in West Dorset with his wife and two children. When not supporting others in the outdoors, Tony enjoys exploring with his family. Any time left is for his passions of kayaking, running and cricket.

Toby Ralph

Projects Specialist

Toby applies his huge experience in project management to deliver inspiring, ground breaking and effective outdoor event project courses.

Toby has been running projects for the last ten years, across multiple disciplines. He is currently running a mixed portfolio of commercial projects. For the last five years Toby has focused his skills in a project management training environment, involved in running courses across Europe to multinational companies.

Toby moved into project management from a background in sales and marketing and he is a holder of the Project Management Institute's prestigious PMP accreditation. Toby is a Director at Obsideo delivering pioneering project management courses and works in partnership with Nutshell in using the outdoor environment to inspire practical course delivery.

Toby lives in Dorset with his wife, two children and Lilly the Labrador. When not delivering his innovative training courses Toby pursues his passion for cricket as a handy spin bowler.

Andy Ford

Event Leader and Safety Support

Andy combines high skill in outdoor logistics and safety while inspiring others to achieve great things through outdoor pursuits.

After leaving the armed forces Andy worked in the outdoor industry as a guide, expedition leader and operations director for numerous overseas events and expeditions.

Andy has worked on over 60 overseas and UK challenge events and has also been involved in the safety and logistical planning of such events while back in the UK.

His experience covers long distance treks, cycling, rafting and dog sledding in every continent of the world, except for Antarctica (to date!). Andy now uses his leadership, safety and logistical skills on a daily basis in the construction industry managing safety and planning and also combines this with his work in the outdoor sector.

Andy works with Nutshell as a specialist in leadership, logistics, climbing, mountaineering and event safety.

His spare time is spent with his family or extending his boundaries on mountaineering and climbing expeditions of his own.

Gyles Morris

Schools and Outdoor Projects

Gyles has spent his entire career helping people of all ages to gain inspiration from the outdoor environment.

Gyles is happiest sharing his passion for the environment with others through his wide range of practical, hands on and often awe inspiring activities and workshops. He lectures on the primary PGCE geography courses at the London Institute of Education and has spent many years designing and advising on the development of school grounds. Gyles brings these skills in his work with Nutshell. He also leads groups on expeditions and outdoor events to remote parts of the UK and overseas sharing his unique passion for the great outdoors.

Gyles lives in mid-Wales with his wife and three children where he manages his own eco campsite and environmental education centre.
